Real estate can be tricky. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of when the market’s up and down. It can be frustrating if you’re trying to “time” the market right or get in on a good deal with the best rates. Would you believe me if I said that right now, none of this matters? Before you can jump into understanding the complex nature of buying and selling, you have to start with the basics. Here are three easy tips you can learn right now about real estate!
1) Your house is an asset.
For buyers, your home should be something you are investing in. The more effort you put into finding the right home and getting qualified, the better your chances are of getting a good deal. And I’m not just talking about interest rates.
Your home should suit your needs. You have an opportunity to make your dreams come true. When it comes time to buy, be sure to partner with an agent or company that will work on your behalf to get you what you want.
2) Only sell when the time is right.
I’ve met many sellers who always wonder when it’s a good time to sell their home. Sure, you can look at peak season and gather market research about real estate in your area. But that will only take you so far. Selling your home comes down to one thing: your goals.
First ask yourself, “Why am I selling my home?” The answer to this question will help you decide when it’s the right time to put your house on the market. Maybe you’ve gotten a new job in another city and you have to relocate. Or, you want to be closer to a specific school for your children. No matter what your reason for moving is, your agent should be able to help you figure out which time is right for you.
3) Your agent should be a godsend.
This one is a given, but I’m surprised by the amount of people who just “put up” with their agent. For me, this is truly heartbreaking. When you’re looking to make a transition that involves real estate, you should feel at ease and confident about the process. If you don’t feel this way, you might have a problem.
Before you contact an agent, be sure to check out ALL their reviews. This will save you time and a few future headaches.
So as you can see, treating your home like an asset, selling when the time is right, and having an agent you can trust are some of the cornerstones of real estate.
