It seems like everyone is obsessing over Millennials these days. As a generation, they have been very vocal about the things they like, dislike, and their opinions about everything in between. But would you believe that when it comes to home-buying, Gen X-ers are considered the up and coming, and unique generation?
As a group, you Gen X home buyers have very defined needs and desires for their future homes. Below are a few statistics about the population and how you play a factor into your home-buying experience.
More than half of your population has children under the age of 18 living with you. Having children at home means needing space for them to sleep and hang out. So, you, Gen X home buyers, are very specific about floor plans and where exactly your family members are going to utilize key spaces.
The first thing that comes to mind is bedrooms. Yes, young kids can share a room, but as they get older, they will want their own bedroom. This is a good thing! Buying a house with enough bedrooms can be an investment in the long run. When your kids leave for college, you can convert the extra bedrooms into an office, game room, etc. Utilizing your space this way can open up the possibilities if you plan on selling your home in the future.
Almost 25% of your population has an aging family member living with you. This special circumstance creates very specific home needs. For example, if you have a family member in a wheelchair, you would be interested in homes with doorways and showers that are easily accessible.
As the older generations continue aging, custom-built showers and bedrooms are becoming more popular. So, if you find yourself in this situation, you’ll have more options and floor plans to choose from.
Almost fifty percent of your population is very concerned with the security of your home once you step out the door. And just like Millennials, you are tech savvy. So, when it comes to ways to protect your home, you’d like to do it while you’re on the go. Instead of placing steel bars over your windows, you’re looking for home alarm systems that can be digitally monitored.
Good news! Many technology providers (home security, internet providers, etc.) have products that will keep you connected to your home security system while you are away.
Nobody knows how to have fun at home like you do! Since your home is the hub of your life, you have found fun things to do around the house that keep everyone busy. A vast majority of Gen X-ers enjoy cooking at home, organizing your spaces, taking on DYI projects, outdoor activities such as barbecuing, and having get-togethers with other people. And when the crowd leaves, you enjoy taking a load off and relaxing at home.
No matter what generation you belong to, home buying will be something unique to you.

Felecia’s Raving Fans
“I found Felecia on Zillow and she responded to me immediately and has always been great about getting back to me and meeting me at any property I decided on. When we finally found the property we wanted she was very helpful with getting a lender and what steps we needed to take to go forward and we couldn’t have been happier . She was very friendly and knowledgable about local properties.”
